Description :

Marco Pierre White may have proved himself to be a tad intimidating on Hell’s Kitchen, but there’s absolutely nothing daunting about his Soho homage to all things Gallic. In fact, it’s quite the opposite: soothing music, tinkling cutlery & an air of ‘glamorous Parisian chic’ are apparent in both the ground-floor restaurant & upstairs in the Michelin-starred Picasso Room, so named because of the original artwork on show. Downstairs wins praise for its ‘exceptional value for money’: all starters – think ham hock, foie gras & parsley ballotine with sauce gribiche – are 8.50 & mains - black bass with confit artichokes, say – are either 12.95 or 14.95. Upstairs the cooking is more ambitious – roasted loin, braised leg & confit shoulder of Paille d’Or rabbit with wild garlic puree, crisp belly & livers – with a heavyweight wine list & prices to match: a three-course lunch or dinner is 42. The only criticism of the ‘old-school’, ‘knowledgeable’ staff is occasional over-attentiveness.
