Description : Things are on the up at this Islington favourite. A gentle refurb, unveiled in early 2008, features a chic, cool-blue colour scheme while a redesigned bar area lends a sense of relaxed informality. Better still, staff have upped their game, & new head chef Alan Jones (ex-Lucknam Park) brings a refined touch to the kitchen with his modern take on French bourgeois classics. Mussel & saffron soup needed just a touch of black pepper to release the full, fresh flavours of the shellfish, though the saffron-infused velouté was perfect in texture & taste. To follow, pot-au-feu of Landes chicken was an updated version of grand-mere’s cooking, gentle poaching bringing out the vivid flavour of the high-calibre bird, enhanced by delicious celery, leeks & carrot cooked together ‘en pot’. Desserts are a strength: the lacquered sugar topping on a creme brulee concealing a terrific vanilla-infused creme. Excellent coffee & petits fours round things off nicely &, as ever, the pre- & post-theatre menus at £14.50/17.50 for two/three courses are great value.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place – the food is amazing!! i've been about 4 times recently and every time they get it right. the roast barbary duck with spring greens is delactable served with daphinoise potatoes on the side – my favourite. i've also tried the steak tartare, which i never thought i would be a fan of, but Ameida have turned me! it comes with the perfect amount of chopped shallots, parsley and gerkins on the side with an egg yolk in the middle, honestly – i am a true convert! the passionfruit souflee with homemade vanilla icecream in the middle is just amazing – they bring it to the table and dollop in the ice cream in front of you so you can see it sink in and melt. i have taken my friends and family to this restaurant and every single one of them has come back for more! the restaurant staff are efficient, friendly and so smooth you barely even notice them! i genuinely recommend this place, delicious food, great staff and above all affordable! i will definitely be going back again and again.
